Deer Lakes Park

Maybe it’s the expansive disc golf course. Or the three spring-fed lakes with great fishing and trails. Or maybe it’s the observatory, where starry nights take on a magical quality. But something about Deer Lakes Park makes you feel closer to the sky. The 1,180-acre park stretches across West Deer and Frazier and provides plenty of children’s play spaces and picnic areas.

When the Parks Foundation identified opportunities for improvement in the directional signage across all nine county parks, Deer Lakes Park became the first to pilot the signs based on our comprehensive guidelines.

  • In 2004, officials were forced to close Deer Lakes Park when the lakes in the park spilled their banks from Hurricane Ivan rains.

  • Deer Lakes Park is home to the Wagman Observatory.

  • The movie, "I Am Number Four" was filmed in part at Deer Lakes Park in 2010. Had you followed the mysterious yellow "Lorien" directional signs and ventured deep into Deer Lakes Park near Tarentum in the foggy blackness would have discovered a secret carnival.
